The Black Box Effect
Uncertainty can produce fear and anxiety, which can influence our willingness to take risks that are essential to our successes and jeopardise potential gains.
We can call this the Black Box Effect. We are looking at the box, scanning the outside for potential harm, but have no idea what’s inside the box, it could be a trick, a trap of a treat. There is no way to know unless we open it.
This behaviour is due to the fact that humans are innately weird to be cautious, this is certainly a great trait when living in a jungle with lions and other dangerous creatures who wants to feed off our flesh but will not do us good in most cases in where we at today.
So why the box is so scary? It can be traced to multiple reasons, the most important one that we all should be aware of is the fear of failure. Let’s face it no one likes to lose, we like to win and we like things to go well all the time. We hate it and we panic when things go south.
I am not sure what you think, but I believe we should embrace risks and understand that life in itself is a risk. If we tracked the most successful people throughout history from scientists, great thinkers and to entrepreneurs, we would conclude after carefully reading their stories, they were all risk takers.
Without taking risks there will be no rewards or bad consequences to learn and grow from, we all heard the saying “What doesn’t kill you, only makes you stronger” and believe me it’s TRUE.
